How To Deal With The Microsoft Update 0X8024001D Error Message
If Microsoft update returns the 0X8024001D error message the following procedure should have it running again in most cases.

Run the command prompt using you favourite method.

From the Start Menu: Click Start - All Programs - Accessories - Command Prompt. - Method 2.
From the Start Menu: Click Start - Run.
Type 'cmd' and click 'OK'. - Method 3. The quickest, Using Windows Shortcuts.
Hold down the windows key and press the R key.
Type 'cmd' and click 'OK'.
- Method 1.
- From the command prompt type 'net stop WuAuServ' to stop the WuAuServ Automatic Updates service from running.
- From the Start Menu click Run, or hold down the windows key and press R.
Type %windir% and press enter to go to the Windows folder. - Find the SoftwareDistribution folder and rename it SoftwareDistribution.old.
- From the command prompt type 'net start WuAuServ' to re-start the WuAuServ service.
- Go to the Microsoft Update web site to see if it now works.
